Conservation Good Class Bungalow
No.1 Dalvey Estate Good Class Bungalow
This bungalow was commissioned by E. A. Barbour & Co. in 1927 and designed by Frank Wilhim Brewer (1886 – 1971), the first university-trained architect to practice in Singapore. It features all the classic Brewer hallmarks: flared eaves, oriel windows, exposed brick voussoirs and buttressed walls.
The bungalow was the private residence of the late Ong Teng Cheong, Singapore’s first elected president and himself a prominent architect. In the mid-1990s, it was restored and extended by his architectural practice according to the conservation principles of maximum retention, sensitive restoration and careful repair.
